Ian and other concerned northern
birders,
Indeed the proposal is to put a caravan park on the
western side of the road adjacent to Yule Point. I feel that if it goes ahead we
will definitely lose the Stone-Curlews from the area (and other important bird
life). I have approached the local council about the matter and they say there
is nothing we can do until the developers apply for approval. At this stage they
have not applied.
Personally I think the damage to that unique area
would be intolerable as I don't think you could stop the visitors to the
park using the shore area.
I have prepared a list of wildlife in the area and
a short paper on why the area is ecologically significant to the shire (ocean
front mangroves etc).
I can let you know as soon as the application for
the park gets to council if you are interested and have concerns it. The more
people that respond to the council the better chance we have of saving the
area.
Cheers
Peter
