I got some nice close up pix of a tawny perched at head height in a
deciduous tree on the Blackall Range yesterday - it wasn't bothered by the strong breeze and was pretty obvious when you looked in its
direction. Like bush thickknees, I think frogmouths rely as much on
immobility as much as anything to stay out of attention - that in
addition to keeping their large eyes mostly closed.

Regards, Laurie.

Hi all

We have on our place in the Noosa hinterland a Tawny frogmouth that
seems to prefer to roost low i.e. under one metre.  In some of its roosts, its camouflage doesn't seem effective at all.

How unusual is this bird for its species?

Andrew
