Like Charles I have just returned from the Capertee Valley but had less time birding available (about an hour).  Unlike Charles, however, I found no shortage of Regent Honeyeaters!  I didn't have the time to chase up numbers but just about every spot I stopped I was greeted with the calls of Regents.

The major difference between these two experiences is probably my intimate knowledge of their calls and an eye for where they may be found (I found them in a few places where they haven't been reported so far this season).  Basically, if there is flowering White Box, it is worth a look!  Having said that though, they can also be found in areas where there is no flowering so be aware!  Regents are plentiful and widespread in the Capertee Valley at the moment.

Charles, if you are going over to the valley again, give me a call and I'll give you some tips.  Please note, that if anyone sees Regents please don't assume I know about them.  Neil Kirby recently reported Regents at known sites and not only extended the period of known occupancy at a couple of sites but greatly increased the number known to be present  - numbers are steadily increasing as the breeding season rapidly approaches.  I saw birds yesterday that were behaving as though they may have already established nests!

Cheers

David
