With regards to gassing, I believe carbon monoxide is fairly effective
and painless (after all, people use it when offing themselves), and
the people I've talked to who've used the method for feral control
said it seemed the least cruel. It tricks the body's mechanisms by
appearing to be oxygen gas molecules, and binds to haemoglobin in the
same way. Once bound it never unbinds, so eventually the body runs
out of blood carrying oxygen. One caution - if you plan to use your
exhaust pipe to produce the gas, make sure there is a pipe, or baffle,
or something to take the heat out of the exhaust fumes, because you
could end up cooking the poor creatures rather than gassing them.
With regards to the trap, I believe older designs required a "Judas"
bird inside them to encourage Mynas in. I don't know if the new trap
requires this, or how they might have got around it.
My personal feeling is that direct control rather than trapping would
be more effective, however I do understand that in some urban areas
trapping is by far the most preferable option.
