Hi Crag and Birding-aussers, On Sydney's Northern Beaches I also associate Bulbuls with Lantana and wetlands. At Warriewood Wetland and the swampy areas to the east of Narrabeen Lagoon there are large colonies of Bulbuls and plenty of Lantana. They certainly like exotic vegetation but also can be seen in the Swamp Mahoganies where they sometimes feed in the foliage. I am not sure if they are developing a taste for nectar or insects. Around my way Bulbuls appear to be on the increase, this increase is increasingly noticeable over the last 4 or so years. At times Bulbuls are the most common bird in Warriewood Wetland. Bruce Cox. |
