How about two flocks of Gouldian Finches, one of 30 and another of 40 – along the Golden Gate track near the NT / WA border.

That's easy, Lorne. Whilst I've seen couples or dozens of most species, I've seen hundreds of Zebra Finches in central Australia in 1978 and last September I saw at least a thousand Zebra Finches adjacent to the Barkly Roadhouse on the Barkly Highway, NT.

I've also seen hundreds of breeding family groups of Crimson Finches at Geikie Gorge near Fitzroy Crossing, which easily tallied into the thousands. However, these were more interconnected groups rather than flocking in the true sense of the word.
