Lorne Johnson asked about large flocks of finches in Australia. The biggest flock that I can remember is ~1,000 Painted Finch at the Mary River bridge (between Halls Creek and Fitzroy Crossing) in the Kimberley. It was late August from memory in the mid 1990s. They were gone a week later. I have seen reasonable flocks of Zebra Finch (100s), Star Finch (100+), Chestnut-breasted Mannikin (~100). _________________________________________________________________ Frank O'Connor Birding WA http://birdingwa.iinet.net.auPhone : (08) 9386 5694 Email : -------------------------------------------- Birding-Aus is now on the Web at www.birding-aus.org -------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe from this mailing list, send the message 'unsubscribe birding-aus' (no quotes, no Subject line) to |
