Hi all,

As Chris said the logging in the south east of Tassie is very sad. We
hear about the Tarkine and other pristine areas but in the south east and
east it seems that the forrests have been cleared in the same way we see
annual annual crops of wheat cleared in Victoria.

I drove from Eaglehawk in a loop to the east and north back to Hobart and
was amazed at the clear-felled forrests. The scarry part thought was to
fly out on a clear sunny morning and realise that the clear felling is
continuous for most of the flight until we cleared the north coast.

The saddest thought in hind sight though is that there is no apparent
atempt at re-planting. The people in Tasmania seem to think that they
live on one enormous magic pudding and that cut-and-come again is a
reality.

The other incredible sight on the roads was the road kill of wildlife. Do
Saturday night hoons drive the roads with the sole intent of hitting
possums and devils? It seems so. What a sad state; and yet, away from the
road kill and clear felling, so beautiful!

Jen
