Hi Simon,
Thank you for you report on Red-necked Avocet. Today
morning (Saturday 2nd October) at very high tide
around 11am, there were 8 of them roosting near the
bird hide of Bicentennial Park's waterbird refuge
wetland. It is my first time ever seeing this bird.
Earlier there were around 30 Sharpie and 15 Curlew
Sandpipers at Mason Park. One Sharpie fluffed up its
back and belly, stretched out its wing, cocked up and
fanned out its tail feathers and strutted in front of
its mate. This action last for 2 minutes. Is it
courtship display at wintering ground?!
Also found the Narawang Wetlands. Scenic but very few
birds, probably came at wrong time, the fenced
brackish pond across the road was probably more
interesing.
