Yes, telescopes are allowed. Which obviously suggests that the optimum 
place run the big sit would be an area with a good views (such as a 
looking over a valley or near coastal cliffs for pelagics), with two or 
three habitat types behind you.

Alternatively however, you could easily set the boundry for the big sit 
in your own backyard, sitting under your favorite flowering gum (having 
a barbie or sipping G&Ts or a beer on your balcony in the evening, and 
having coffee and criossant in the morning). Not a bad way to raise 
money for bird conservation and research! (Which sounds very Australian 
to me Laurie!)
