Children's book

A friend of mine is writing a children's book which prominently features
birds.
An editor has said to him that he can't have a magpie, laughing kookaburra
and rainbow lorikeet perched on the same verandah as the magpie would chase
the lories off. I didn't think that would be the case, unless it was in
spring.
Any thoughts?
