A thought on Aphrodite. Maybe she just has an intermitent fault in her
transmitter? In 2002 I crossed from Africa to Aust on a container ship
and have a full set of weather maps for this area in late June. The path
apparently taken by Aphrodite would give her the best ride east on the
prevailing winds at this time of year. And as others have pointed out,
she does not appear to be heading for any particular south African port
at the moment.
But I do wonder why she is the only bird to have headed west? Everyone
else seems quite happy hanging out in the gulf.
Meanwhile I wait in hope that mighty Aphrodite will cross the line and
maybe head right on for South America.
