I was interested to hear of your sighting Steve as recently near Pyramid Hill I have seen WWChoughs in unlikely places.I normally see them where there is tree cover extending at least 10 hectares or so and there's a few sites on the plains here where they are hanging on.However I've noticed them in 2 sites recently that are no more than a few old scattered Black Box,boxthorns plus a few windbreaks. These birds have moved a reasonable distance to get there(a few kms?) and are using what I would have thought as very marginal habitats. Where was it I read that White-winged Choughs were in trouble with the opening up of habitat and the subsequent increase in Magpies? Cheers, Simon Starr |
