Steve Clark inquires about the Victorian distribbution of White-winged
Choughs in the south west of the state.
The most recent Atlas of Victorian Wildlife data shows the following
- the species is widespread across almost all of Victoria.
- it is noticably absent from the Big Desert, the south west region between
east of Mt Napier and the Otways Ranges, South Gippsland and the Alpine
area
- a grid cell falling over the Mt Napier State Park
- records for the southern end of the Grampians and from Mt Napier down to
Portland on the coast and then across to the borde with South Australia.
David Geering has just advised of the movements of the species and suggests
it isn't impossible for the species to make 25km or so.
Be sure to Atlas your records Steve!
cheers, Martin
