G'day all
I've just seen 3 White-winged Choughs in a plantation on the Pastoral and
Veterinary Institute (about 10km s of Hamilton in western Victoria). The
PVI is a research farm surrounded by many km of cleared farmland in all
directions. The nearest Choughs would be in the southern Grampians at
Dunkeld - about 25km to the north-east. We have Mt. Napier State Park
nearby but Choughs are not on that list and I haven't seen them in any of
the forests to the south-west, although I believe they are present. I've
been here for 22 years and the PVI birdlist goes back to 1974.
The location of the sighting is GDA Lat 37° 49' 19" Long 142° 05' 29"
Questions:
How for do Choughs move?
Are they likely to stay?
What atlas records are there for Choughs down this way outside of the
Grampians?
Cheers
