G'day Graham,
Where abouts in Oz are you talking about ?

Here at Mount Isa (NW Qld) there is no shortage of them.
In fact their numbers around the suburbs seems to be increasing.

Monday night, near our Irish Club, they were flocking around in swarms feeding on insects with Woodswallows above at a greater height. There was also about a dozen resting on the various power lines having a breather.
Yesterday afternoon, at Lake Moondarra I also saw dozens.

Regards
Bob Forsyth, Mount Isa, NW Qld.
