Yesterday afternoon, about 5.45, the kids flicked on the television. On the ABC was the kids show "Jeopardy". The scene was an historic sandstone church set in the bush - obviously western Sydney (I don't know why but Ebenezer comes to mind - I really don't know why?). Immediately my attention was grabbed by the unmistakable calls of Swift Parrots. Also conspicuous were Little and Rainbow Lorikeets. Every time the program switched back to a scene at this church Swift Parrots were heard calling. I was going to catch the end of the program to see what year it was copyrighted but was otherwise engaged. I strongly suspect it was 2002 as Swifties seemed to be everywhere on the NSW coast last year. Now, is this (tongue planted firmly in cheek) the behaviour of a truly endangered species?? You would never catch any self respecting Regent Honeyeater being lairish enough to jump out at any TV camera - they reserve their best only for nature docos.
