Hi all,
This is pretty serious stuff, some sources seem to think that the fight
to halt the Saemanguen reclamation in South Korea is almost won.
However, it seems far from over and needs as much International support
as possible. Unfortunately NZ's Prime Minister did not raise the issue
on her visit to South Korea over the last few days, as she was expected
to.
Take the time to add your name to the petition and check out more info
at

It takes less than 5 minutes!
Cheers

Further to Phil Battley's earlier posting:
Unfortunately the Prime Minister did NOT raise the Saemanguen
reclamation project with her South Korean counterpart.
To give some sense of scale, the area being reclaimed in South Korea is
roughly equivalent to the COMBINED TOTAL of the intertidal areas of
Parengarenga Harbour, Manukau Harbour, the Firth of Thames. Farewell
Spit and the Avon/Heathcote estuary! Yes - its BIG, which is why you
should be worried about the future of our Bar-tailed Godwits.
If you would like your grandchildren to be able to see Bar-tailed
Godwits in New Zealand you might like to help raise awareness about this
project. For a start, how about signing the petition at:
http://www.wbkenglish.com/petition01.asp
(where you can also get further information about the project)
Currently there are only about 34 NZ signatures out of 2250 posted.
It seems likely that the next court announcement about the reclamation
project will be on 18 August.
