Surely it comes down to what you are wanting to use them for. A birder on the Newcastle pelagics has a pair (not sure if Pentax or not) and he uses them primarily to obtain photos of seabirds for identification purposes. In these situations a strange bird comes into view and you don't have the time to break out the camera and locate it again. He seemed to use these digi-binoculars as his main optics (with another pair of binmoculars as back-up if I recall correctly). A classic example was a possible Cooks Petrel seen off Newcastle in October (?) last year (I'm sure there's something in the archives about this) which when the photos were later examined by those in the know, including New Zealand seabird authorities, the verdict was that the bird was actually a Pycrofts Petrel. No photo - no positive id .. and the bird didn't stick around for better those with cameras in their bags! Now, it could be that these digi-binos, in their present form, aren't much chop for photographing birds compared to what other technology is available but they may well have their place.
