On Tuesday night, I was excited to see five magpie geese flying in a north-westerly direction after leaving Reedy Lake. Another highlight was 4 Royal spoonbills and a yellow spoonbill. Peter P.S. Unfortunately a large shopping complex has been planned to the East of Reedy lake on previously cleared swamp land. My concerns, apart from the future development that it will no doubt attract to the area, is the number of plastic bags etc. that will clog up the swamp system. The positioning is unfortunate, since the winds will rocket across Corio Bay from the plains pushing all the rubbish straight into the swamp. A discussion was held a couple of weeks ago on the positioning of the complex but i'm unsure of the outcomes....but I think it go the go ahead. Anyone who visits Reedy Lake and the swamp lands of the area will be astounded by the natural beauty of the area. It is a vital breeding ground for birds such as Magpie Geese, that I have just been informed are only just starting to gain numbers in Victoria. It would be truly tragic to see this environment fall prey to greedy developers. |
