Just some additional info:

Its proposed for the corner of Melalueka Rd and the Newcomb Highway, on the old swamp plains before you go up the escarpment. (directly adjacent to  Gateway Sanctuary, i might add).

Its yet to be approved, but apparently pulic support is quite high for its developement.

I think the big issue is that it is planned on the swamp plains. Apparently there is some type of legislation that prohibited development down on the plain that will be waived, and it worries me that once a shopping centre is there....then more swampland will be reclaimed for housing developments around it.

All of heard is word-of-mouth, so please investigate these points if interested.

Thanks to Peter Fuller for alerting us to the shopping centre proposal south of Geelong.  I hadn't heard anything at all about it and I live in Geelong.  One slightly positive thing is that it will be on the eastern side - our prevailing winds here are westerly and south-westerly, swinging around form the north on hot days.  We rarely get a south-easter, and even less frequently winds from due east or north east.  That at least should keep the bulk of 'free-range' bags out of Reedy Lake - but of course the disturbance due to construction and ongoing use are of concern.
