Hi All,
In travelling about following that ever elusive little duck from the
northern countries (i.e. Northern Shoveller) it was really interesting to
see so many other birders out doing the same. We thought that if we worked
together we could narrow down the searching and locate the bird, well it
didn't work but it did raise a new tool if you will. Since many of us now
have mobile phones and SMS is relatively cheap we all exchanged phone
numbers with the mutual promise to inform each other if the beast had been
spotted. I wonder if when another rarity turns up people could post their
mobile numbers on birding-aus to join the SMS-list while out searching. Many
eyes make it much easier to find those frequent flying birds - maybe less of
them will get away!! You may be concerned about posting your number but only
the most determined prank callers would be a nuisance as calls to mobiles
don't come cheap (unless your rich! I ain't!!).
Cheers, Dean
