I find this discussion on Taxonomy concepts very interesting, in spite of being a little mentally challenged by some of the detail.
 
But I did locate this posting by Mark E. Mulhollam to Birding-Aus, 13/1/1998 of a copy of posting by Dr. Futuyma to Bird Chat
Here is the current reference
 
It is a good read .. worth while printing out !
