Apologies for the late posting, but whilst I was doing some wader/waterbird
surveys at Altona (western Melbourne, Vic) last Wednesday, I observed a
juvenile White-bellied Sea-Eagle over the mouth of Laverton Creek, Altona
Meadows. At the low tide there were about 1500 birds of various species on
the intertidal zone around the creek mouth - best other birds probably 10
Red Knots. Best birds nearby at the Altona sewage treatment complex in
Altona Meadows (not open to the public) included 1 Great Egret and 1
Intermediate Egret perched alongside each other on a concrete wall - roughly
1000 birds of various species there. Species list for both locations
available on request .....
