The Ringed Plover at Marlo Victoria was still in
the same location late Saturday afternoon, February 9th.
When we crossed to the sandbar, the tide was at its lowest and the deepest
water we encountered was about 3 feet deep. At this time the bird was sheltering
from strong winds among the low sanddunes a couple of hundred meters from the
Little Tern colony. It was keeping company with a group of about 10
Red-capped Plovers and some Red-necked Stints.
The directions given by Mike Carter in his posting of 3rd February and
those of Geoff Walker on Birdline will get you there.
A nice bonus for Melbournites was a pair of White-bellied Sea-Eagles
soaring over the backwater.
