Good morning all
There were five Painted Snipe at Kaurna wetlands this morning. One
group of three (2 males with one female) and another more brightly
coloured pair (1 male and 1 female) 50 m away.
They are frequenting the south-west swamp area near the corner of
Waterloo Corner Road and Helps Rd and are best seen from the western
embankment. The water has receded since last week and this morning the
snipe were hiding in rushes near the northern most log of the remaining
channel. There are also some flooded rushes at the south west corner of
the swamp and the birds flew to that area when disturbed.
Today they are relatively easy to see at both sites, but on Friday they
demonstrated their ability to hide from me when I was unable to locate
them at all.
