I too applaud this decision at this early stage. I might have reservations
after I see what actually happens.
As a general rule, the ACA seemed to imply that shooters will only be
allowed on private land (I assume with permission of the owner!). I think
the rules for public lands, parks, etc will be slightly different, although
there will be some access allowed (maybe that's the permit part?).
The law seemed to allow them to shoot all feral animals (cats, foxes,
rabbits, goats, pigs). It certainly sounds good.
I was birding at Warne River east of Payne's Find in WA (about 400km NE of
Perth) several years ago when I met some hunters with crossbows hunting
goats. It certainly makes you nervous when you are way out in the
outback! Similarly when you meet people with guns. If people are hunting,
then there should be signs warning others that hunting is occurring in the
area.
