While working today a Royal Newcastle Hospital, I found a Buff Banded Rail. It consisted a 2 wings and a head and upper body that was squashed flat on the drive way. I went and got Phil Hansbro (who works in the University building next door) and he confirmed it wasn't a Lewins Rail!!.

RNH is only metres from the beach and there is no suitable habitat for quite some distance(maybe 5 km). Phil and I speculated that it was probably flying at night and hit one of the buildings and been subsequently eaten by a cat.

Most unusual find.
