Hello all,

I'm not directly responding to Paul's request but I am asking a question about Tree Sparrows.

I'm intending to spend a few days in Orange sometime during the next month or so and was wondering whether anyone knew whether Tree Sparrows and Greenfinches are still seen in Orange. Some of the field guides list them both as occurring this far north. Are they resident here and if so can anybody give me info on where around Orange they've seen them?

Cheers,

Mick Todd

Hi All,

At the place I stay while doing fieldwork in Newtown, Geelong, I
have noticed a big increase in Tree Sparrow numbers this year.
Last year I only saw 1 or2 at most every now and then, in the last
two months or so I TS are nearly as common as House Sp in the
back yard here. I commonly see 3-4 every time I walk out the back
door.

Perhaps they are the same individuals, but has anyone else in
Melb noticed an increase in TS? I was told at one point that the
only 'safe' place to see TS was Melbourne botanic gardens, any
comments?

Cheers,
Paul McDonald
