Tony,
you called it a different perspective...I can only see that your perspective
is related to your business. Maybe we should now continue this privately,
not on Birding-Aus!

With the 'Directory of Australian Birdwatching' I was trying to give people
a choice and information.
There are visitors from Australia and overseas who like to be in the sticks,
away from it all, and in some locations you don't have much of a choice in
regards to accommodation. Sitting around in the heat of the day looking at
birds in the garden can be a lot nicer than being in any motel/hotel and
stare at walls or TV.

And to Denise' s comment about the advertising of Mary River (they are on
the directory). I don't have the resources and expertise to check and give
guides, accommodation places, tour operators, etc a rating to be included or
excluded from the directory.
I had once a guide complaining to me about including a B&B, which is located
in the rainforest, as they took away a termite mount, which could be used by
Buff-breasted Paradise-Kingfishers, when they built their house.
I just can't judge these things, sorry. Normal magazines like 'Wingspan'
can't do quality control with their advertisers either. I am sure if people
do the wrong thing or perform badly the message will spread quickly around
the birding society in Australia and then steps can be taken.
    Enough said, I think,
                                    Klaus
