Hi Birders,
Mike Simpson queried the status of Forest Kingfishers in the Sydney Region. I can say that their normal range does not extend to Sydney, as it generally extends south to about the Manning River (Taree area), about 350 kms to the north. However one or two birds reach Sydney annually.
Forest Kingfishers have a more deeper blue that that of the Sacred Kingfisher, have a prominent white circle in each wing only visible in flight, prominent white lores, and present a very white/deep blue appearance although juveniles are mottled. As Sacred Kingfishers generally have a white collar, the description given by Mike did not seem totally convincing. Hopefully he can return to check the description again.
