Is the Forest Kingfisher recorded in the Sydney area? Reason for asking is
that I was walking alongside the Nepean River in Penrith today (a common
Azure Kingfisher haunt), and saw what I took to be a Forest Kingfisher
sitting on a branch near the river.

It was only about 10m from me and I had my binoculars with me. The bird was
a lighter blue than other kingfishers I have seen here, and the white collar
went right around its neck. Its breast was a dirty white (or white covered
in dust?).

>From my books the Forest is the only Kingfisher which seems to fit the bill,
I watched the bird for about 2 minutes before it flew off higher into the
tree at which time there appeared to be white in its wings.

Best regards - Mike Simpson, Penrith, NSW, Australia
