There's more to mirror behaviour than territory and defence matters. As mentioned by others in relation to Babblers, social birds relate to them quite differently. Everyone would be familiar with the practise of putting a mirror in a budgie's cage but I've also had personal experience of the effectiveness of this with adult rescues of a Little Corella and an Apostlebird. Both were much quieter and apparently less stressed with a mirror to perch next to.
