I know there has been a small amount of discussion on Birding-Aus about the
potential locust problem, but I wonder if there has been any involvement of
informed individuals in the proposed strategy of management about to be
implemented by the farming community and others in southern Australia.
Media reports of yesterday, if correct, suggest that large amounts of
pesticides are ready and waiting to be dropped on to affected or potentially
affected areas. It is undoubtedly true that it is because the eco systems
are so out of whack that there is even a problem at all, but the reality is
that it exists and it will be dealt with one way or another. i'd be
interested to know if there has been any consultation about the effects on
fauna, avi and otherwise in the development of this strategy?
