Hi All!

Many of you will be aware of the leaflets produced by keen birdos in Barraba and Manilla, NSW to promote birding along the old Travelling Stock Routes around the towns. These leaflets have the dual purposes of 1] letting birders know where to go and what to see in the areas, and 2] increasing tourism for the town/area.

Another such leaflet is being produced for the Baradine area (Pilliga region).  My reason for writing is to advise that a leaflet, "Bird Routes of the Dubbo District" has been produced, and is available from Janis Hosking, phone 02 6884 2266 (BH).  Janis has developed the leaflet at her own expense for the purpose of helping both Dubbo and birding generally.

The leaflet contains information about 9 bird routes, a map and a bird list for the region. Janis has followed the design developed and used by Russ Watts for Baradine.  It is simple and straightforward to produce and to use, and we are grateful to Russ for his enthusiastic help and advice (and his gentle pushing!).

We hope that this idea will spread, especially in 'country' areas, so that travelling birders could go armed with leaflets covering their entire route - it would be almost as good as having a local, flesh 'n blood guide! Anyone contemplating the production of one of the guides for their own area is welcome to call Janis at the above number.

Regards,

Judie Peet
