Ros and all, Further to my earlier comments on privet, I've just been lent a copy of the NSW WIRES Newsletter Autumn 2000 and in it is an article on Camphor Laurel, and I quote in part: "...the green fruits, leaves and roots of the tree are toxic to native Australian wildlife. The fruit contains a large proportion of poisonous saffrole which causes sterility in birds when eaten. The overall impact on the native bird population is unknown." The information is credited as a research finding of Joe Friend and the Southern Cross University School of Resource Sciences. The spread of the White-headed Pigeon is often noted as being linked with Camphor Laurel, yet if the above is true, it puts a whole new light on things.
