Hello all,

At exactly 02 44 this morning lying awake as usual, I heard a distant sound
rapidly approaching from the north. This sound is very hard to describe , it
had a murmurous, musical quality with a hint of a subdued warble and was
apparently made by a largish flock of birds.
The estimate of the size of the flock being necessarily vague as it was
based on a count of twenty-seven seconds as the birds passed overhead. The
sound receded in a southerly direction.
The calling , coming out of the stillness of the night ,was beautiful : made
up of many voices but not loud
They were not Black Swans, Ducks or Masked Lapwings, these I hear not
infrequently . My best guess is Blackwinged Stilts.
Any suggestion as to the night-fliers would be welcome.
