There usually are several Great Crested Grebes at Walka Water Works which
is near Maitland NSW. It costs a few dollars to get in there.
Often there are also some on Grahamstown Dam which is situated between
Newcastle and Raymond Terrace. They're not always in the parts of the
water which are viewable from areas with public access, but you can be
lucky sometimes.

| Hi Edwin,
|
| In 1999 I saw them at four sites west or north-west of Sydney. They
| were present in small numbers at Prospect in September when I last
| visited.
|
| Just west of Lithgow they are nearly always present at Lake Wallace,
| Wallerawang.
|
| One is sometimes present on the small colliery dam on the right of
| the Lithgow - Capertee Rd near Cullen Bullen.
|
| Rylstone Dam further to the north nearly always has this species and
| is a good area for Hoary-heads as well.
|
| Regards, Andy
