Dear Tony and All,
I hope your respondents remember not to quote your whole message or
else we're all going to get swamped with VERY long messages!
I do agree with you but, as one who is no longer a gov. employee I can
feel safe in saying so. I do remember what job insecurity feels like but
I don't know how to get people in that all-too-common position to speak
out.
The other major hurdle is the debilitating depression that such topics
often create. I know I find it hard even reading about the awful things
that go on. Did you read the excellent piece in the Advertizer by the
Greening Aus. writer, in which she bemoaned the "incomprehensible
inability of polititians" (and most other people) to understand that
without a healthy environment there's NOTHING? Faced with this grim
reality, the ostrich syndrome is extremely attractive! Ben Elton's
fact-disguised-as-fiction novel "Stark" should also be compulsory
reading for everyone from age 12 upwards (and it would almost certainly
be lighter reading than "New Internationalist")
That's my rave. But what good is our raving going to do?
Anne
