Ian,
You can order National Geographic's Field Guide (it's the only one I use here)
from the Los Angeles Audubon Society Bookstore online. That's where I get all
my books when I'm heading out on vacation. We'll be there next year this time
and I just got several Australia related bird books from them so I can
practice. I also recommend "Birds of EUrope" by Lars Jonsson as recommended
by Bob Taylor. I found it very useful while there.
