In addition to my recent report of the unacceptably large numbers of the
myna in the Far North, Cairns Branch of BOCA have been endeavouring to get
an expert on their proposed eradication to come to speak at one of our
local meetings. This, hopefully, will occur soon and any positive moves on
the part of "the authorities" in how to handle this problem will be passed on.
Over the Dec-Jan period, I was visiting family in Tamworth and was
horrified to see for the first time a pair of mynas on the outskirts of town.
The European Blackbird also appears to be taking a hold in the town with a
pair attemptingto nest two years in a row in my brother's back garden.
It seems the nest was predated, possibly by cats, both times and whilst the
pair of birds remained in the neighbourhood, they didn't seem to try to
nest again - perhaps the Country and Western fest scared them off (as it
did me!).
