Querying my bird database I find I have seen a single Red-whiskered Bulbul
at Melbourne Botanic Gardens, near National Herbarium, on 29 Sept. and 9
Oct. 1988 (likely the same bird; I believe initially notified by David
Eades.)
Peggy Mitchell's sightings column in The Bird Observer is a good source of
Bulbul records in Melbourne
For what it's worth I reckon they're intermittently being introduced by
misguided Sydneysiders in much the same manner as Common Myna was
introduced to Canberra (or so the story goes)...then die out due to
shortages of fruiting trees at certain times of the year.
Anyone got any better ideas???
