Records from Bayside, SE Melbourne, include 4 in a Sandringham suburban street on 12/3/88 (published in Bird Observer no 676) and one in a Black Rock street on 28/2/83. The other 20+ records all refer to the Spring St area of Sandringham where there were 3 birds around 1991 with unsuccessful nesting (non birdo report). Earliest date from this area was 29/5/82 (Bird Observer 607). Series of records of single birds from 7/93 to 5/96. Now presumed to have died out at this locality. I believe there are other recent records from the Royal Botanic Gardens and another suburban Melbourne site. Michael Norris Hampton, Victoria, Australia 3188 roughly 37° 55' S 145° E |
