Damien asks about the Red Whiskered Bulbul in Australia.
This south east Asian bird has been introduced to a handful of countries in
the Pacific, including Australia. It was introduced to the cities of
Adelaide, Melbourne(1915 - Atlas of Victorian Birds) and Sydney. The
Victorian Atlas says that in Melbourne they were regularly reported in the
Royal Botanic Gardens and in some suburban gardens until 1982 but few
records since 1983.
Has any Melbourne birdo seen a Bulbul in the last 16 years? Sydney seems
to have more records of the species.
I recommend the book by John L. Long as a very useful reference for anyone
interested in bird introductions in the world and their impacts.
