Highlights from twice-weekly Canberra Ornithologists' Group (COG) hotline,
for week ending 19 December (some reports are of earlier obs).
SOME REMARKABLE HAPPENINGS, IN OUR SMALL WAY, THIS WEEK!
KOELS 16/12 pair in southern suburban Kambah; single at northern suburban
Hackett
SPOTTED & BAILLON'S CRAKES 16/12 Kambah golf course
LITTLE LORIKEETS several suburban sightings over the week [an
uncommon Canberra visitor]
SUPERB PARROTS 16/12 7 in suburban Fraser
CHANNEL-BILLED CUCKOO 16/12 suburban Mt Painter [the 2nd in Canberra in
the past month; VERY few previous records]
GREY-CROWNED BABBLERS 16/12 (but reportedly present for the past couple of
months) north end of Majura Lane, near northern border of ACT, just off
Federal Highway to Sydnet. [I don't recall any previous ACT records for this
species; I wouldn't normally expect them within 100k of the ACT, though they
were almost certainly present historically].
