Highlights from twice-weekly Canberra Ornithologists' Group (COG) hotline,
for week ending 5 December (some reports are of earlier obs).

BRUSH TURKEY (reported by Hugh Tindale-Biscoe, formerly Chief CSIRO
Wildlife) from Monga State Forest, near Braidwood. [While this is in its
historic range, it is a very long time since they were reported there.]

OSPREY for past few weeks at Googong Reservoir, near Jerrabomberra. [We
think there was a record from the 1960s from Lake George or Bathurst, but
again this one is close to unique.]

BUFF-BANDED RAIL & AUST SPOTTED CRAKE 30/11 Suburban Jerrabomberra
Wetlands. [Both very uncommon locally.]

FRECKLED DUCK 4/12 single male; first reported locally for nearly six
years.

Re last week's report of a Little Bittern at Tidbinbilla; Phil Hansbro
(bless his little Geordie socks) tells me that there was one reported from
there early last year. Sorry about that!

Cheers,

Ian
