Yes, there does seem to be something of an influx of White-necked Herons this year into the Canberra region too. It happens every few years, coinciding (apparently) with droughts to the west - in our case they are commonest in the Riverina area. I assume that the same would be said of western Vic (ie that W-n Hs are commoner there than in the east, and that it is currently dry there).
