've just seen, without really trying, at least 60 Latham's Snipe at Jerringot
Wildlife Reserve, so you should be able to go mist-netting. I went down with
Gordon McCarthy to put some up for you and several flocks flew up and round and
back again. We didn't have to do any walking out into the wetland. The birds
did not seen particularly disturbed. This was in the southern wetland; we did
not disturb the northern wetland. Just out from the bird hide we had close-up
views of an Australasian Grebe. No camera, of course! Didn't see the Baillon's
Crakes today that were reported on Saturday.Big flock of Cattle Egrets came in.
This morning at 10 a.m. 100 were huddled in the grass out of the wind.
I'm off to the Paroo Overflow on Saturday, so probably won't see you. Please
let me know the results of your endeavours at Belmont Common.
Regards
Valda
