Has anyone got any more information since Laurie Conole's posting on GPS
units back in April?

In particular, I am considering the EAGLE "Explorer". I searched the web
and found some information at http://www.gps4fun.com/main_eag.html#Explorer

It is available in WA for about $450 (incl. tax) plus $34 for the the
cigarette lighter adaptor which hopefully I won't need if my spotlight
adaptor is suitable. The $64 for a holster also seems a bit steep.

Specifications say that it is the fastest hand held currently available (it
has 12 channels and should lock in from scratch in 3 minutes) and it gives
an accuracy of about 35 metres. It is waterproof.

These types of products are undoubtedly being enhanced as fast as we speak.
What is the rate of improvement in hand held GPS units? How fast are the
prices reducing? i.e. if I wait until March or so next year, what
advantage will I have? The above specifications are suitable for my
requirements, so a reduction in prices is probably the most important
factor.
