The default inittab file was running a login script on both COM ports. This is why I couldn't communicate with Port 2 from a program launched from the Com1 console. I commented out the appropriate line in inittab and everything works. Thank-you for your help! kristeen From: Walter Marvin <> To: "" <> Sent: Monday, December 5, 2011 8:30 PM Subject: Re: [ts-7000] another newbie question about serial ports A better way might be to disable the getty for the console.
That might take some startup script reading From: Larry <> To: Sent: Monday, December 5, 2011 7:58 PM Subject: Re: [ts-7000] another newbie question about serial ports
Kristeen One thing that you need to check if you haven't already is check the file /etc/inittab. This file is used, among other things, to generate logins for serial ports. Make sure that if the port you're trying to use is listed that you comment that line out with a # character. If you are trying to do I/O on a com port that has a login running on it, it's hopeless. You are looking for a line something like this: t2:2345:respawn:/sbin/getty tty2 9600 vt100 which you change to this: # t2:2345:respawn:/sbin/getty tty2 9600 vt100 Larry On 12/5/2011 7:19 PM, kristeenpalmer wrote:
